AMERICORPS CONSTRUCTION SPECIALIST
Highlands Housing has served southeastern Appalachia Kentucky since 2007. We have helped almost 300 families achieve the dream of homeownership. Our services include energy efficient new construction, owner occupied repair, tenant rental assistance, and homebuyer education and advising.
Highlands provides a supportive work environment, where we work together to create better communities. The AmeriCorps Construction Specialist will contribute to the development and rehabilitation of affordable housing. This position will work at the direction of the Vice President of Construction and is a 12-month service position beginning August 1, 2024, 37.5 hour/week.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Duties:
• Participate in the construction, renovation, and repair of affordable housing units
• Perform a variety of skilled and unskilled construction tasks including framing, drywall, painting, flooring, roofing, and finishing
• Ensure all work complies with local building codes and standards
• Assist in planning and scheduling construction activities, ensuring projects are completed on time
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth workflow
• Perform site visit for pre-construction evaluation
• Collect cost details for rehabilitation jobs in a timely manner
Administrative Duties:
• Maintain accurate records of work progress, materials used, and hours served
• Assist in preparing and submitting permit applications and ensuring all necessary permits are obtained for construction projects
• Serve as a point of contact for project updates, communicating regularly with team members
• Coordinate warranty matters
Qualifications
• Experience in construction, carpentry, or related fields
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in using construction tools and equipment
• Excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Skilled in utilizing Buildertrend software
• Commitment to the mission of providing affordable housing to those in need

Location
Office locations in London and Monticello. Job sites are located throughout Highlands Housing’s service area, with sites typically within an hour of offices in Kentucky.
