Highlands Housing has served southeastern Appalachia Kentucky since 2007. We have helped almost 300 families achieve the dream of homeownership. Our services include energy efficient new construction, owner occupied repair, tenant rental assistance, and homebuyer education and advising. 

Highlands provides a supportive work environment, where we work together to create better communities. The AmeriCorps Homeownership Specialist will play a key role in helping families achieve homeownership. This position will involve a mix of direct service and capacity-building activities designed to educate and support potential homeowners through the process of purchasing and maintaining a home. This position will work at the direction of the President and CEO and is a 12-month service position beginning August 1, 2024, 37.5 hour/week. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Create educational materials and resources to support prospective homeowners 
  • Assist clients with understanding and completing applications for homeownership programs 
  • Provide ongoing support and follow-up with clients throughout the homebuying process 
  • Connect clients with relevant resources, such as financial counseling and legal assistance 
  • Assist Loan Officer with prequalification tasks 
  • Gather information to support the environmental review application for land 
  • Collect and report data on client progress and program outcomes 
  • Promote homeownership programs, creating marketing materials, managing social media, and help raise awareness about the available services and programs 

Qualifications 

  • Previous experience in housing, community development, or social services 
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Familiarity with community resources 
  • A commitment to community service and a passion for helping others achieve homeownership 
  • Cultural competency and the ability to work with diverse populations 
  • Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
